Fitted Bedroom Systems
At Interior Designs NE Ltd, we believe that understanding how your fitted bedroom is constructed is just as important as how it looks. We’re proud to explain everything upfront — no hidden surprises — and to show you the high-quality products we use whenever you visit our showroom.
There are two main types of fitted wardrobe construction commonly used in the UK: full carcass and front frame systems. We offer both — but we generally recommend full carcass wardrobes wherever possible for their superior strength, durability, and finish.
Here’s a simple guide to help you understand the differences:
Full Carcass Wardrobes
By default, we use the full carcass construction method for our fitted bedrooms because it delivers the highest quality and maximum flexibility.
- Each wardrobe is fully built with 18mm thick panels — including the backs, sides, top, and bottom.
(We never use thinner materials like 4mm ply for backs.) - This creates a fully enclosed, box-like wardrobe, covering the walls, floor, and ceiling inside each robe.
- Internal fittings — such as shelves, hanging rails, internal drawers, and shoe racks — are custom-made to fit each section perfectly.
- A carcass wardrobe keeps your walls protected and eliminates the need for repainting or recarpeting inside the robe every few years.
- The result is a solid, stable wardrobe that stands the test of time.
Front Frame Wardrobes
Front frame wardrobes create a supporting frame at the front, where doors are hung, but do not have internal side or back panels.
- When you open a front frame wardrobe, you see the existing bedroom walls.
- Internal fittings like hanging rails and shelving are still available, but the storage space is not fully enclosed.
- Front frame wardrobes require the walls behind to be prepped and painted, as they remain visible inside the wardrobe and may mark over time.
- Access openings are slightly smaller compared to carcass robes because the frame structure takes up more space.
At Interior Designs NE Ltd, we typically recommend front frame wardrobes only where carcass robes aren’t practical — such as:
- Tight staircases or awkward access points (e.g., spiral staircases)
- Loft spaces or bedrooms with angled ceilings
Which System is Best for You?
While both fitted bedroom options have their place, we believe full carcass wardrobes provide the neatest finish, strongest construction, and longest lifespan — making them our preferred recommendation wherever installation allows.
All of our fitted wardrobes, regardless of the construction type, come with soft-close hinges on all doors and drawers for a premium feel and smoother everyday use.
Our experienced team will guide you through the options available and recommend the best solution based on your space, access, and design preferences.
